13 Traffic Police Officers Suspended from Duty After Injuring Chinese Traffic Offender

TAKEO: The Takeo Provincial Police has decided to suspend 13 traffic police officers for a month after they caused injury to a Chinese man who was caught speeding on 1 January 2023.

The suspension of 13 traffic police officers was due to a post by Facebook user CUI JIAN showing photos of injuries he received in a dispute with police officers who fined him US $100 for speeding at a "68 kilometers" area.

After gaining knowledge of the post, the Takeo Provincial Police requested the Chinese man come to the police station for further questioning. However, the Chinese man replied that he had no intention of suing the police.

The Facebook page of the Takeo Provincial Police wrote, "He (the Chinese man) did not intend to file a complaint but expressed his anger at the traffic police, who acted inappropriately and caused injuries, and as he has to get on a flight to visit his homeland during the upcoming Chinese New Year, he did not demand anything."

Although the Chinese man did not file a complaint against the police, the Takeo Provincial Police Commissioner, Chheang Phannara, decided to discipline the 13 traffic police officers by suspending them from their duties for one month, and requiring them to be present at the office during work hours.

He said that the officers are being disciplined on ethics and their behavior, which lacked patience and discipline, causing such an incident to take place.

The Takeo Provincial Police also called on the public to respect and understand the traffic laws in order to reduce accidents.
